Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos launch $200 million Phoenix Species Project to save 100 endangered species.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos have launched the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million initiative dedicated to the recovery of 100 critically endangered species across 30 countries. The project, led by DiCaprio’s Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund, is the largest single fund in history dedicated exclusively to recovering critically endangered species. The initiative aims to provide long-term sustenance to smaller, successful conservation efforts. The project includes species such as the golden-crowned sifaka, the Hickory Nut Gorge green salamander, and the Malayan pangolin. The funding and technical support will allow conservation groups to scale up their efforts to protect these animals from the and threats of climate change. This project resulted from a series of conversations with local governments, environmental groups, and Indigenous people to determine the best way to reverse the decline of the most vulnerable species.
