Raul Medina reports that the Little Fire has burned over 1,000 acres in Alameda County, prompting evacuations for thousands of residents.

Raul Medina, Battalion Chief for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, reported that the "Little Fire" burned over 1,000 acres in the hills of Sunol on Tuesday. The blaze, which began south of Pleasanton, prompted the evacuation of more than 4,800 residents as the fire posed an immediate threat to life. Firefighters from CAL FIRE and the Alameda County Fire Department utilized a combination of ground crews, dozers, and aircraft to combat the flames. While hot weather and limited access to the head of the fire presented challenges, the fire was 10% contained by 10 p.m. One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the operation. The fire primarily impacted the Ruby Hill neighborhood and areas along Vineyard Avenue. Fortunately, no structures were burned due to the significant defensible space in the prestigious Ruby Hill area. Residents displaced by the fire sought refuge at the Pleasanton Senior Center, where city staff provided support. Investigators are currently working to determine the official cause of the fire.
