CAL FIRE crews successfully increased containment of the "Little Fire" to 60% by Wednesday evening after the blaze threatened the Ruby Hill neighborhood in Alameda County. The fire, which began Tuesday afternoon near Little Valley Road and Hubbard Lane, burned just over 1,000 acres. While the fire posed an immediate threat to life, no structures were damaged thanks to the extensive defensible space maintained by residents and a neighboring rancher. The administration of the fire response included crews from the Alameda County Fire Department and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. One firefighter sustained a minor injury when a CAL FIRE engine rolled over during the operation. All evacuation orders were lifted by Wednesday evening, allowing residents to return to their homes. CAL FIRE officials noted that while hot weather and limited access presented challenges, the use of air tankers, helicopters, and ground crews effectively slowed the fire's forward progress. The official cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
