Lorena Guillen reports that the Guadalupe River is surging with a large and deadly flood wave across southern Texas.

Lorena Guillen, owner of Howdy’s restaurant and RV park, reports that the Guadalupe River is currently surging with a large and deadly flood wave. The river rose more than 25 feet in one hour at Comfort, Texas, reaching levels similar to the catastrophic floods of last July. The administration announced a disaster declaration for 59 counties as heavy rains continue to pound the region. While some areas like Kerrville and Hunt saw moderate crests, the river in Comfort is nearing a record-breaking peak. Residents are being urged to shelter in place and move to higher ground as dozens of water rescues are underway. Lorena Guillen noted that sirens provided early warnings this year, unlike the previous year when warnings arrived too late to save several vehicles. While the flooding has caused significant power outages and washed away dump trucks, many residents remain safe. The National Weather Service expects the heavy rainfall to continue through Friday, with some areas potentially receiving up to 15 inches of rain.
