Lockheed Martin introduces the PAC-3 ACE as a cost-effective interceptor to combat drones and missiles.
Lockheed Martin introduced the PAC-3 Adapted Capability Effector (PAC-3 ACE) on Monday to provide a budget-smart solution for air defense. The new interceptor costs less than half of the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) per unit, offering a more economical way to neutralize threats. The defense firm developed the PAC-3 ACE to address the high costs of using expensive interceptors against mass-produced munitions, such as Iranian Shahed drones. While a standard PAC-3 interceptor costs approximately $4 million, the Iranian drones typically cost only $35,000. The PAC-3 ACE is designed to combat cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles while remaining compatible with the existing Patriot weapon system and Integrated Battle Command System. Tim Cahill, president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, stated that the interceptor provides a battle-tested, budget-smart option for allied forces. By collaborating with American and European partners, the company aims to speed up development and bolster the resilience of the global defense industrial base.
