A customer with a concealed carry permit shot and killed a knife-wielding man at a Cerritos barbecue restaurant on Sunday afternoon.

A man armed with a knife was shot and killed at Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que in Cerritos on Sunday afternoon. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the 11300 block of South Street at approximately 2:12 p.m. after reports of a man causing chaos inside the restaurant. The victim, who had reportedly stolen a red pickup truck and stabbed himself at a nearby Starbucks, ran through the kitchen and dining areas, frightening staff and guests. A customer with a valid concealed carry permit confronted the man and ordered him to drop his weapon. When the man charged forward, the customer fired his gun, striking the man with fatal wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the incident was an isolated event. The customer who fired the shots remained at the scene to cooperate with the Homicide Bureau. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased man or a specific motive for his actions.
