Two Sigma Investments confirmed that it was targeted by a coordinated wave of AI-driven voice phishing attacks alongside other major hedge funds.
Two Sigma Investments confirmed that it was targeted in a coordinated wave of voice phishing, or "vishing," attacks that utilized artificial intelligence to mimic human voices and trick staff into granting system access. The Bloomberg report indicates that other high-profile hedge funds, including Ken Griffin’s Citadel and Steve Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management, were also targeted by the hackers. While Two Sigma Investments reported that its security team responded quickly enough to prevent any internal systems from being compromised, the firms of Ken Griffin and Steve Cohen did not immediately confirm whether a breach occurred. IT security experts warn that AI has commoditized hacking skills, allowing for the execution of attacks at scale. Will Wilson, CEO of Antithesis, noted that while financial firms previously benefited from the scarcity of hacking expertise, modern AI now requires firms to urgently upgrade their security. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has already begun coordinating responses to these sophisticated threats through its Financial Intelligence Fusion Center.
