Malaysia Airlines pilot MS was arrested in Jakarta for allegedly smuggling 70,000 ecstasy pills and methamphetamine.
Indonesian authorities arrested a 39-year-old Malaysian national, identified as MS, for allegedly smuggling more than 26 kilograms of ecstasy and a package of methamphetamine into Jakarta. The pilot, who was on duty for Malaysia Airlines, was caught after customs officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport noticed a suspicious suitcase during an X-ray screening. Eko Hadi Santoso, director of narcotics crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, stated that the pilot was allegedly under the influence of narcotics while on duty. The pilot allegedly received instructions to transport the drugs in exchange for 50,000 Malaysian ringgit. The arrest highlights a potential gap in airport security, as the smuggling operation exploited the special privileges granted to airline crew members, who often bypass the standard passenger baggage processing channels. Malaysia Airlines has launched an internal review of the incident to ensure the integrity of their operations.
