Leon Gillespie Fined After Spending 50 Minutes on Hospital Roof Dressed as the Grim Reaper
Leon Gillespie, a 26-year-old man from Deganwy, Wales, was fined £200 after spending approximately 50 minutes on the roof of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital. Dressed in a black hooded outfit resembling the Grim Reaper or a crow, Gillespie stood above the entrance and stared at patients, staff, and visitors while brandishing a long blade. North Wales Police and fire services were deployed to manage the incident, which occurred on June 6. Gillespie was charged with causing a nuisance or disturbance on National Health Service premises without a reasonable excuse and for refusing to police instructions to leave. During the court proceedings, Gillespie admitted to the behavior and also pleaded guilty to two unrelated theft offenses involving a pet shop and a supermarket in Llandudno. The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which oversees the hospital, emphasized its zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior within its facilities.
