Rick Dinger warns West Hollywood residents that limited flood insurance coverage may leave many facing high costs after a massive water pipe rupture.

Rick Dinger of Crescenta Valley Insurance noted that most residents may face significant out-of-pocket costs following a century-old water pipe burst in West Hollywood. While the rupture caused widespread flooding and mud accumulation, Dinger explained that only about 1% of California homeowners carry specific flood insurance. Unlike standard fire insurance, which is widely held, most residents are "out of luck" regarding flood coverage unless they have a specific policy. Dinger clarified that while renter's insurance typically does not cover this type of large-scale flooding, vehicle owners with comprehensive coverage should be protected as the event is considered an "act of God." The incident serves as a practical reminder for residents to consider the risks of aging infrastructure. Dinger suggested the pipe break should prompt more people to secure flood insurance, as it is a more common risk than earthquakes in the region.
