The House Ethics Committee opens an investigation into Rep. Max Miller following domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife.
The House Ethics Committee announced it is reviewing allegations that Rep. Max Miller may have engaged in domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use. The Ohio Republican requested the probe himself to clear his name from public accusations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. While Miller denies the claims, stating he has never been physically abusive, Emily Moreno has alleged that Miller scalded her with hot water and held a gun to her head. Adding to the political pressure, Miller's former father--in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno, has publicly criticized the congressman, stating that Miller should not serve in the House and needs professional help. The administration announced that President Trump called Miller to warn him that his reelection race would be difficult. During a personal conversation, Donald Trump said Miller is a good person and will let the families resolve the allegations. Despite these challenges, Miller remains in the race for Ohio's 7th Congressional District, even though recent polls show him trailing his Democratic opponent, Brian Poindexter.
