The weather system is expected to be most intense during the late afternoon and evening hours. While temperatures will remain cool in the low 80s, the storms may bring damaging wind gusts, small hail, and life-threatening rip currents at local beaches. The storm system is also impacting the broader Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New Jersey are under flood watches as rainfall rates may exceed one inch per hour. In the Tri-State area, the stronger round of storms is forecast to occur between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., potentially producing an isolated tornado. Due to the incoming weather, hundreds of flights at JFK and LaGuardia airports have already been canceled or delayed.
