Midwest Poultry Services L.P. Recalls 19 Million Eggs Due to Salmonella Outbreak
Midwest Poultry Services L.P. is voluntarily recalling nearly 1.6 million cartons of eggs, totaling approximately 19 million eggs, due to a potential salmonella enteritidis outbreak. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported that nearly 100 people across 17 states have fallen ill, with 26 of those individuals being hospitalized. The illnesses occurred between November 21 and June 30, with symptoms including fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. While Midwest Poultry Services L.P. eggs are a likely source of the new outbreak, the company also previously recalled eggs from Texas farms produced between June 6 and July 3. Genetic testing confirmed that some samples from these farms matched the bacteria strain. Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for eggs sold under various brand names with sell-by dates between July 20 and August 17. Most patients are expected to receive a full recovery within a week, though severe cases may occur in children and older adults.
