Jason Haley and other Southaven residents are suing xAI over constant noise and vibrations from the company's new data center.

Jason Haley is leading a group of residents in a lawsuit against xAI and its subsidiary, MZX Tech, over the "near-constant" noise and vibrations produced by the company's data centers in Southaven, Mississippi. Haley, who lives within a mile of the plant, reports that the high-pitched roaring has caused headaches, sleep deprivation, and feelings of depression. The dispute highlights a growing national trend of residents opposing local data center construction, with a Gallup poll showing the majority of Americans oppose building them nearby. While the administration has seen the rise of AI infrastructure, local residents like Jason Haley and Taylor Logsdon argue that the physical impact on human health is often overlooked. The NAACP has also filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging that the 59 gas turbines used to power the facility operate without proper air permits. These turbines are accused of increasing nitrogen oxide and fine particle pollution, which may exacerbate respiratory issues in the predominantly Black communities surrounding the site.
