Mikie Sherrill, the Governor of New Jersey, urged residents to plan their weekend travel as a vigorous storm system moved across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The weather pattern brought high-impact conditions on Saturday, including wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, isolated tornadoes, and significant flash flooding across New York City and New Jersey. In New York City, rain rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour caused several major interstates to be submerged, leaving motorists trapped in Queens. While the storms caused approximately 240,000 power outages across the region, a cold front eventually ushered in cleaner air and clearer skies for Sunday. The weather system continues to move south into the Carolinas on Sunday, where a level 2 severe threat remains. While damaging winds are the primary concern, the FOX Forecast Center warned that a stalling front could lead to localized flash flooding with totals reaching up to 3 inches in some areas.
