Sydney Welch reports that a First Alert day has been issued for Monday due to a system of heavy rain and tropical humidity moving through the region. The weather system, driven by a cold front, will bring periodic showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with total rainfall amounts ranging from a quarter of an inch to 2 inches in most areas. Localized flash flooding is possible, particularly in poor drainage areas and locations already saturated from previous rainfall. While the heaviest rain is expected to west and north of Boston, including Worcester County, some southern and eastern areas will also see downpours. Gusty winds of 20 to 35 mph are expected, with a few stronger gusts possible during thunderstorms. The system is a fast-moving one, with clearing skies and a return to sunshine and lower humidity on Tuesday. Temperatures will remain in the 70s today, but the heat index will climb into the 90s later in the week as unsettled conditions return.
