Ethan Teicher, a spokesperson for Waymo, reported that a self-driving vehicle was involved in a two-car crash in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles early Sunday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 5:44 a.m. on Venice Boulevard, involving a Waymo robotaxi and a blue sedan. According to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department, at least two people were hospitalized following the collision. Four others who complained of pain were treated at the scene. While the exact number of victims included a pedestrian, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Waymo stated that its vehicle was not at fault, noting that the robotaxi was traveling at 27 mph when the sedan, traveling between 47 and 50 mph, hit a pedestrian and swerved into the Waymo. The company emphasized that the safety of riders and other road users remains their top priority.
