Galymzhan Abaildayev faces multiple charges after jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge tower while nearly naked.
Galymzhan Abaildayev was arrested and hospitalized after jumping from the north tower of New York City's Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The 44-year-old man climbed the historic structure, allegedly stripped down, and jumped into the East River while holding a makeshift parachute and two flags. New York Police Department officials reported that the harbor unit rescued Abaildayev from the water, and he was sent to a city hospital in stable condition. He currently faces several charges, including reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, public lewdness, graffiti, and disorderly conduct. The jump occurred around 2:30 p.m. after reports of a man scaling the 143-year-old bridge with a backpack. While the city does not provide exact tower heights, restoration workers noted the towers stand 272 feet tall.
