Carlos Palazuelos has issued a notice of claim seeking $3.25 million in damages against the Pima County Sheriff’s Department following his detention during the search for missing person Nancy Guthrie. The notice, a precursor to a full lawsuit, alleges that Palazuelos was arrested at gunpoint without probable cause and that his home was ransacked by investigators. The claim also includes requests for settlement from Daniel Maddox, who was detained for several hours, and Josefina Maddox, who is seeking compensation for property damage to her home. Sheriff Chris Nanos has maintained that the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains active and ongoing. While Palazuelos alleges that the sheriff's department failed to clear his name after his release without charges, the sheriff's office stated that no one has been cleared in the case. The investigation, which has reached the six-month mark, continues to analyze DNA and digital evidence to locate the 84-year-old woman who was last seen safe at her Tucson home on February 1.
