Samsung Electronics cuts hundreds of U.S. jobs as the company relocates its consumer electronics headquarters from New Jersey to Texas.

Samsung Electronics has cut approximately 839 jobs across its U.S. consumer electronics operations as it prepares to move its headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano, Texas, by the end of the year. The company confirmed that 739 roles in New Jersey were affected, with the majority of those employees receiving relocation offers. Additionally, roughly 100 workers in the mobile division in Texas were laid off. The move highlights a divergence in the company's performance; while its chip and memory division saw a 19-fold jump in quarterly profits due to high AI demand, its consumer electronics unit faces challenges from rising component costs and intense competition. The administration of the company noted that the relocation aims to foster stronger collaboration and optimize the organization within the growing AI ecosystem. While there is no broad global restructuring currently underway, workers expressed concerns regarding potential future consolidations of the appliance and mobile divisions as the company prioritizes its high-performing semiconductor business.
