Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews work to repair a new leak on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is addressing a new leak discovered Wednesday night on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. The leak appeared at approximately 8:30 p.m. as crews were backfilling and preparing the surface for final paving. This development follows a massive water main break last Thursday that released 17 million gallons of water, creating a large sinkhole and flooding the surrounding neighborhood. Crews excavated an 8x10 foot area to locate a pinhole-sized leak at the eastern edge of the worksite. The department is currently taking water quality samples and plans to weld a patch at the site. While the new leak could potentially delay the project, officials stated there are currently no known impacts to the goal of reopening the street by Friday. The department will bring the pipe back into service slowly to monitor for further issues before completing the final repaving and striping of the popular boulevard.
