The first round of scattered storms is expected to develop after 7 a.m., with a stronger second wave arriving between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. This evening system could produce damaging winds of up to 60 mph, hail, and an isolated tornado. A Flood Watch is currently in effect for New York City and most of New Jersey. Forecasters anticipate 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated areas potentially seeing higher totals leading to flash flooding. The severe weather has already impacted regional travel, with nearly 1,000 flights canceled across the Northeast. JFK and LaGuardia airports are currently under ground stops as thunderstorms move through the area. Residents are advised to take shelter during tornado warnings and avoid driving through flooded roadways during the evening commute.
