Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal Confirms Nine People Injured in Targeted Shooting at Royal Banquet Hall
Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal reported that nine people were injured in a targeted shooting at the Royal Banquet Hall on West Gate City Boulevard early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on August 2, and the victims included four minors, specifically one 15-year-old and three 17-year-olds. All nine victims are expected to survive the injuries. Assistant Police Chief Ric Alston noted that while 911 callers reported gunfire, officers did not find anyone shot at the scene; instead, all victims took themselves to the hospital in private vehicles. Two males were taken into custody near the scene, though police have not yet specified their exact roles in the shooting. Chief Kamran Afzal described the event as a targeted incident rather than a mass shooting, noting that it was a specific individual targeting others. Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter expressed her thoughts for the victims and urged the public to contact Crimestoppers to provide information as the investigation continues.
