Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Reports First Quarterly Net Profit in Two Years
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. reported its first quarterly net profit in two years, posting a net income of ¥3.8 billion for the three months ended June 30, 2026. This result marks a significant turnaround from the ¥740 million loss reported during the same period a year ago, exceeding analyst expectations of a ¥23.3 million loss. The company's success is attributed to disciplined cost-cutting measures under its Re:Nissan plan, which yielded ¥60 billion in savings during the first quarter. CEO Ivan Espinosa noted that while the business environment remains challenging, particularly in China and the Middle East, the company is focused on improving profitability and building a more resilient brand. Despite the profit, Nissan lowered its global sales volume projection for the fiscal year ending March 2027 to 3.15 million units. The automaker is also pursuing restructuring, including selling its headquarters and cutting 20,000 jobs over the next four years to address falling sales and rising raw material costs.
