He noted that he did not want to distract from the grieving family or the true purpose of the service. The death of Nolan Wells remains under investigation after his body was discovered on Horn Island on July 6. While local officials initially suggested an accidental drowning with no foul play, the family requested an independent autopsy because the circumstances "is not adding up." A preliminary independent report listed the cause of death as undetermined pending further investigation. The state autopsy, which includes toxicology results and a closer look at the neck structures, is expected to provide more clarity on whether Wells entered the water voluntarily or was forced into it.
