Jonas Gahr Støre sent his condolences to residents after a massive fire destroyed more than 100 homes in the Drammen region of southern Norway. The blaze, which broke out on Friday afternoon, is considered the largest in the country in over a century. Strong winds and exceptionally dry conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly through a hillside neighborhood, leaving more than 400 people homeless. Firefighters, supported by six helicopters and units from the military and the Red Cross, worked through the night to contain the flames. While the fire was mostly brought under control by Saturday, officials noted that the cause of the initial blaze remains unknown. No deaths were reported, though several people were treated for smoke inhalation. Local officials have established an evacuation center at the Scandic Ambassadeur hotel to assist those who lost their belongings. The local municipality has already received over 200 offers of help from residents to provide clothing and household items for the victims.
