Nvidia commits $5 billion to Safe Superintelligence Inc. to accelerate AI research and development
Nvidia has entered into a long-term partnership with Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), committing a $5 billion investment to accelerate the startup's strategic growth. The administration announced that the partnership includes providing SSI with access to Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin AI platform, which is expected to increase the startup's computing capacity by an order of magnitude. Ilya Sutskever, the co-founder and CEO of SSI, stated that the company has research worthy of scaling up and that access to a large Nvidia computer will allow them to do so. Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, noted that Sutskever's pioneering work in modern AI laid the foundation for many breakthroughs. Despite the investment, Nvidia shares fell as much as 5.3% in midday trading on Monday. The decline was attributed to broader semiconductor weakness and China's progress in domestic chipmaking. Investors are currently bracing for upcoming tech earnings from major companies like Microsoft and Meta.
