Omaha Public Works adjusts traffic signals at 114th Street and West Center Road following a fatal crash that killed two brothers.
Omaha Public Works has modified traffic signal timing at the intersection of 114th Street and West Center Road to improve safety after a July 9 collision killed two children. The crash occurred when a vehicle driven by Tanner Hunt struck a Subaru carrying 10-year-old Prestin Strassenburg and 5-year-old Zaiden Strassenburg. The impact was so severe that it split the Subaru in half. The administration announced that the new timing replaces the flashing yellow permitted left turn with a protected-only green arrow for left turns on West Center Road. Mayor John Ewing Jr. stated the changes were made in response to resident concerns and the severity of the accident. Tanner Hunt, who was traveling at 98 mph and had a blood alcohol level of .095, faces two counts of motor vehicle homicide. Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine noted that Hunt could face up to 40 years in prison if convicted on both counts. The city will continue to monitor the intersection to ensure optimal traffic flow.
