Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stated that the city requires every available tool to keep streets safe following two mass shootings in less than 24 hours. The first incident occurred early Sunday morning outside a nightclub in the Uptown neighborhood, where nine people were wounded. The second shooting took place around 8:20 p.m. on Nicollet Avenue, leaving one man dead and four others injured. Jacob Frey emphasized the need for partnerships to ensure perpetrators are prosecuted and called for the hiring of more police officers to prevent future gun crimes. He also advocated for the adoption of proven technologies, such as drones and ShotSpotter, to increase police efficiency. While the two shootings are not connected, investigators are working to identify the suspects in both cases. No arrests have been made yet. Governor Tim Walz expressed his thoughts on the victims of the senseless gun violence, noting that state investigators are working with local authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
