Maple Leaf Foods is recalling approximately 12,036 pounds of not-ready-to-eat smoked bacon imported from Canada. The recall was issued because the products entered the United States without undergoing the required import reinspection process, which verifies documentation, labeling, and general condition. The Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) classified this as a Class 1 recall, indicating a reasonable probability of serious health consequences or death, though no illnesses have been reported yet. The affected products were distributed to grocery outlet retailers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers and are advised to discard or return the bacon to the place of purchase. This recall follows a period of increased trade activity, as the administration announced 50% tariffs on many Canadian imports, including those in the auto, alcohol, and dairy industries, which are scheduled to take effect on Aug. 19.
