Uganda's government suspends all school trips following a fatal bus crash that killed 20 children and one adult.

The Ugandan government has suspended all school trips nationwide following a devastating bus crash in the Kapchorwa district. The accident occurred on Thursday night as a bus from King David Junior School returned from an educational tour of Sipi Falls. The vehicle veered off the road at Chekwatit Hill, struck a large stone, and overturned due to a mechanical fault. The crash resulted in the deaths of 20 pupils and one adult, identified as the school's founder and director, Tadeo Ssekade. Dozens of others were injured, with several children remaining in critical condition at local hospitals. Education Minister John Chrysostom Muyingo ordered the temporary ban as a precautionary measure while a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash is conducted. Traffic authorities noted that the accident highlights ongoing safety concerns in Uganda, where poorly maintained vehicles and dangerous roads contribute to high annual death tolls. Police will provide escorts to ensure the safe return of students to their schools.
