Senator Grant Hauschild and Representative Roger Skraba highlight the ongoing impact of wildfires across northern Minnesota.

Senator Grant Hauschild and Representative Roger Skraba have highlighted the significant impact of wildfires currently burning across northern Minnesota. The fires have consumed over 71,000 acres of land, leading to the closure of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and several localized evacuations. The Southern Area Complex Incident Management Team has assumed command of the 15 active fires. While recent precipitation provided a temporary pause, hotter and drier conditions are expected to make containment more difficult next week. The Bear Trap fire remains the largest, having consumed approximately 35,000 acres. To manage the crisis, the administration of the state's emergency response has mobilized the Minnesota National Guard and authorized state assistance for an additional 30 days. Residents in several areas, including Lake County and the City of Winton, have been placed under "GO" evacuation orders. Senator Grant Hauschild urged residents to follow local directives, while Representative Roger Skraba expressed gratitude to the first responders and National Guard members working to protect the region.
