Governor Greg Abbott surveys Kerr County as residents begin recovery efforts following heavy flooding of the Guadalupe River.
Governor Greg Abbott reported that swift-moving floodwater destroyed or heavily damaged 135 homes in Kerr County last week. The surge over the Guadalupe River also impacted 490 homes and approximately 100 businesses. Abbott noted that while the death toll was higher during the July 2025 floods, the recent waters reached record highs in many areas. The focus has shifted to debris removal and rebuilding as water levels recede. Residents, including Rosalinda Torres and Miriam Hernandez, are working with volunteers to salvage belongings and repair structures. While some homes were spared last year, others were submerged by water rising four feet higher than previous levels. The administration's state officials are monitoring the situation as water continues to flow downstream toward Cotulla, Tilden, and Carrizo Springs. Officials are also preparing for a tropical system expected to hit the Texas coast on Friday morning. Nim Kidd, chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management, confirmed that agencies are readying assets for the upcoming hurricane season.
