Pope Leo XIV to visit Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru in November as part of first Latin American tour.
The Vatican announced that Pope Leo XIV will embark on his first Latin American tour as pontiff from November 6-17. The trip marks a significant return to the region where he spent nearly two decades as a missionary and church leader. Pope Leo XIV will begin the tour in Uruguay from November 6-8, followed by a visit to Argentina from November 8-11. This visit to Argentina is particularly notable as it marks the first papal visit to the country in nearly 40 years, as his predecessor, Pope Francis, never returned to his homeland during his papacy. The final leg of the tour will take place in Peru from November 11-17. Pope Leo XIV holds Peruvian citizenship and served as the bishop of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023. The visit is expected to be a highlight for the Peruvian people, who view the pope as one of their own. The itinerary includes stops in Lima, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
