Heavenly Spices brand Garlic Powder is being recalled from Dollarama stores nationwide due to potential bacterial contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a Class 2 recall for Heavenly Spices brand Garlic Powder sold at Dollarama stores across Canada and online. The 70-gram containers may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium commonly found in soil that can cause foodborne illnesses such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and watery diarrhea. Health officials classified the recall as a moderate risk, noting that while the symptoms are typically non-life-threatening and resolve within 24 to 48 hours, consumers should stop using the product immediately. The B.C. Centre for Disease Control noted that the bacterium often grows in food that has been improperly stored or refrigerated. Customers who purchased the affected garlic powder are advised to discard the product. Dollarama offered a $2.00 e-gift card as a replacement for those who contact customer service directly. Consumers can also email a photo of the product and its lot number to Dollarama to request a refund.
