Prince Harry spent more on Canadian security than any other internationally protected person between 2014 and 2020.
Canadian taxpayers are facing scrutiny after a report revealed that Prince Harry spent the most of any internationally protected person on security costs during a five-year period. The RCMP spent at least $539,575 to provide security for Prince Harry between 2014/15 and 2019/20 as he visited Canada for the Invictus Games and to woo Meghan Markle. These costs were significantly higher than the initial $334,337 figure reported in 2021. The report highlights that Prince Harry's security costs were the highest among more than 100 internationally protected persons who visited Canada during that time. Other notable visitors included Barack Obama, Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. The costs covered incremental expenses like travel and other overtime, though they did not include the basic salaries of police officers. The report notes that Prince Harry was considered a working member of the royal family during this period, but much of his travel was for personal reasons rather than official duties.
