Realta Fusion Selects Former Oscar Mayer Site, Backed by Kieran Furlong, Governor Tony Evers, and Sam Rikkers
Realta Fusion announced it will establish its corporate headquarters and research facility at the former Oscar Mayer plant site in Madison. The fusion energy startup, founded in 2022, plans to develop the facility into a major economic anchor, with expectations of creating over 600 jobs. Kieran Furlong, CEO of Realta Fusion, stated that the company conducted a nationwide search before selecting the site. The development secures up to $55 million in state and local incentives. Governor Tony Evers emphasized that this partnership helps advance the state's goal of utilizing fusion power as a reliable energy source. The commitment involves significant investment into turning the 200,000-square-foot property into a hub for technological advancement. Sam Rikkers, chief operating officer for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, noted that the decision reflects decades of investment in the region's research capabilities. Experts estimate the global fusion energy industry could reach a trillion-dollar market by 2050. Realta Fusion plans to use the site to build a prototype fusion machine, intending to bring the resulting economic benefits to Wisconsin.
