Rep. Ralph Norman announced his candidacy for the South Carolina Senate seat to succeed the late Lindsey Graham.
Rep. Ralph Norman announced on Saturday that he will run in the special primary election to replace the late GOP Senator Lindsey Graham. The announcement comes despite the fact that the administration gave its "complete and total endorsement" to Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, who was recently appointed to serve the remainder of the late senator's term. Norman stated that he will be "laser-focused" on advancing the administration's legislative priorities, specifically the SAVE America Act. He also expressed a commitment to "nuke" the Senate filibuster to allow for more efficient lawmaking. While Norman sought the blessing of President Trump before entering the race, he noted that the president's preference for Darline Graham does not deter his plans to win. Several other candidates have entered the race, including businessman Mark Lynch and Duke Buckner. Other potential contenders include Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Rep. Nancy Mace. The filing period for the special primary begins on July 21, with the election scheduled for August 11.
