Scores for the facilities ranged from 69 to 100. While many establishments achieved satisfactory results, several faced specific issues. For example, China King in De Soto scored 83, and the T-Mobile Call Center / Food Express in Birmingham scored 82 due to black mold in an ice bin. The department uses a 100-point system where points are deducted based on the severity of violations. Priority violations, which directly contribute to foodborne illness risk, result in a six-point deduction. Dan Kane noted that the agency does not use specific ranges to define "good" or "bad" scores, but instead evaluates the overall score and the specific types of violations found. The department typically allows establishments to correct priority violations on the day of inspection, though some facilities require a reinspection within 60 days to ensure compliance.
