Volodymyr Zelenskyy Urges Allies to Provide More Patriot Interceptors as Ukraine Struggles to Defend Against Russian Ballistic Missiles
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged international allies to increase the supply of Patriot interceptors to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russian ballistic missiles. Following a recent Russian attack that saw Ukraine successfully intercept only one of 27 ballistic missiles, Zelenskyy highlighted an acute shortage of these critical weapons. The shortage is largely attributed to the heavy consumption of Patriot missiles during the U.S.-Iran war, which significantly depleted American stockpiles. While the administration is currently discussing the possibility of allowing Ukraine to produce its own Patriot systems, President Trump expressed some caution regarding the technology transfer. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth noted that replenishing global stockpiles could take years due to current production rates. Despite the shortage, the U.S. continues to press ahead with talks on a manufacturing license for Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized that allies should prioritize current needs over hypothetical scenarios, requesting that missiles be used to contain the Russian war now rather than being held in reserve.
