President Nicusor Dan reports Romania shot down three drones in three days as the nation summons Russia's ambassador.
Romania has summoned Russia’s ambassador to complain about repeated airspace violations after the nation shot down three drones in as many days. Romanian President Nicusor Dan confirmed that an F-16 fighter jet intercepted a drone over the Black Sea on Sunday morning, just five minutes after it entered the country's airspace. This follows similar interceptions on Friday and Saturday, with investigations confirming that at least one of the drones was a Shahed model used by the Russian Federation in its war of aggression against Ukraine. President Nicusor Dan described the continued incursions as "unacceptable and intolerable" for a NATO and European Union member. The incidents highlight the growing risk of the war in Ukraine entangling neighboring states. To counter these threats, Romania has integrated the US-made MEROPS counter-drone system to enhance its air defenses. NATO officials have expressed concern over Moscow's reckless behavior, with the alliance pledging to defend every inch of its territory against these stray drones.
