Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian drones sank a Russian container ship and struck three oil refineries in Bashkortostan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian forces successfully sank the Russian-flagged container ship Yanina in the Black Sea and struck infrastructure at three oil refineries in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan. The Yanina, a sanctioned vessel with a capacity of over 100,000 metric tons, was hit by two Ukrainian drones more than 200 kilometers from the port of Novorossiysk. Rosatom, Russia's state-owned nuclear power operator, confirmed the sinking and noted that the 17-member crew was rescued in good condition. Alexei Likhachev, the CEO of Rosatom, described the attack as maritime robbery, accusing Ukraine of piracy. Simultaneously, Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine, with 35 missiles and 185 drones striking the capital, Kyiv, and surrounding regions. The strikes caused significant damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, including the Lithuanian embassy. Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is facing a shortage of Patriot air-defence missiles to intercept these ballistic missiles. While President Trump expressed initial interest in licensing Ukraine to manufacture Patriots, he recently expressed skepticism about granting the technology, noting that the administration would have to be very careful about the technology transfer.
