Donald Tusk Summons Russian Ambassador to Protest Missile Incursion into Polish Territory
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk summoned the Russian ambassador to protest a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile that landed in the village of Tarnawa Kolonia in eastern Poland. The projectile, which was produced near Moscow in the second quarter of this year, landed 92km from the Ukrainian border and left a 10m-wide crater. While no casualties were reported in Poland, the missile was part of a larger Russian strike that allegedly killed at least eight civilians in Ukraine and injured dozens more. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the use of newly produced missiles suggests Russian wartime stockpiles may be running low. The administration of the Polish government expressed unequivocal condemnation of the hostile action, emphasizing that any escalation at the border of the European Union and NATO is unacceptable. NATO leaders have supported Poland, with General Alexus G Grynkewich stating the alliance will continue to take all necessary measures to defend NATO territory. The incident marks the latest in a series of incursions into the territory of Poland, Romania, and the Baltic states.
