Midwest Poultry Services has issued a voluntary recall for 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs. The recall follows the discovery of potential salmonella contamination during routine environmental testing at two farms in Texas. The affected products were distributed to retail and food service customers across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. The eggs were sold under several prominent brands, including Kroger, Brookshire's, Country Morning, Simple Truth, and Sunups. Consumers can identify the recalled items by looking for plant codes P-1950 or 840962 with a Julian Date between 157 and 184 on the side of the carton. While no illnesses have been reported yet, the FDA warned that salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, particularly in children and the elderly. Midwest Poultry Services stated that the company is currently pasteurizing eggs to kill foodborne pathogens. Customers who purchased the affected eggs should return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
