Temperatures in some cities have climbed above 100°F, with a high of 119°F recorded in California. Extreme heat warnings are in effect across much of the Southwest, including Arizona, California, Nevada, and southern Utah, with highs forecast to range from 100°F to 120°F in some desert locations. More than 2 million people in states such as Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Florida face the highest heat-risk level, while another 24 million face a major risk. The National Weather Service warned that these conditions are dangerous for anyone without adequate cooling or hydration. Residents are advised to stay in air-conditioned rooms and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. A strong cold front is expected to bring cooler temperatures and lower humidity to much of the eastern U.S. by next weekend, providing likely relief from the heat.
