Serhii Koretskyi is appointed as Ukraine's new prime minister following a major government reshuffle by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Serhii Koretskyi has been appointed as Ukraine's new prime minister after the Verkhovna Rada approved his candidacy on July 16. Koretskyi, who has headed the state energy company Naftogaz since 2025, was selected by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the nation's need to prepare for a difficult winter. He replaces Yulia Svyrydenko, who resigned from the post. The appointment is part of a broader government overhaul. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also dismissed Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, a move that has sparked protests from rioters in several cities, including Kyiv and Lviv. While Ihor Klymenko is expected to take over the defense portfolio, the final selection remains under consultation. The reshuffle aims to streamline foreign policy and domestic priorities. Svyrydenko is expected to become Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, where she maintains strong ties with the administration. Meanwhile, the administration announced that the UK will provide €300 million to help Ukraine acquire 16 Swedish-made Gripen fighter jets.
