An unidentified adult man was shot and killed in a Santa Monica parking lot following a physical altercation between two groups.

An adult man was shot and killed early Monday morning in a parking lot near the Santa Monica Pier. Santa Monica police officers arrived at 1550 Pacific Coast Highway at approximately 12:32 a.m. to find the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that a physical altercation broke out between two groups shortly before the gunfire occurred. Detectives are currently investigating the specific circumstances of the fight and the shooting. No suspect has been identified yet, and police are working to determine if the shooter knew the victim. The incident occurred during one of the city's busiest weekends in recent memory, which featured an open streets festival and large public watch parties for the World Cup final. While thousands of visitors flooded the downtown area, the shooting provided a somber conclusion to the weekend's festivities. Police are asking witnesses to contact the department at 310-458-8491.
