Elon Musk predicts low survival probability for SpaceX short sellers as stock hits new all-time low
Elon Musk stated that investors betting against SpaceX have a very low probability of survival over time, even as the company's stock reached a new all-time low of $109.53 on Monday. Despite a successful 13th test flight of the Starship rocket, which deployed 20 Starlink V3 satellites and achieved a soft ocean splashdown, investor caution persists. The stock has declined roughly 50% from its post-IPO high, with short sellers now holding approximately 32% of the company's publicly tradable shares. SpaceX is preparing to release its first quarterly earnings report as a public company on August 4. Analysts expect a loss of 23 cents per share on $6.88 billion in revenue. The administration announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) determined no mishap investigation was warranted following the test flight, as the performance was within the scope of planned activities. While the booster landing was not perfect, the company remains focused on long-term goals, including orbital data centers and a Mars colony.
