Elon Musk's SpaceX Stock Faces Investor Caution Following Starship Test Flight Success
SpaceX stock experienced a decline in early trading, hitting an all-time low of $109.53 on Monday. This drop follows the company's 13th test flight of the Starship rocket, which successfully deployed 20 new Starlink V3 satellites into orbit. While the rocket achieved a soft splashdown in the Indian Ocean, the Super Heavy booster performed a hard splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico after failing to relight all 13 engines for its landing burn. Investors are showing caution as the company prepares for its second--quarter earnings report and a significant share unlock on August 6. Analysts note that SpaceX is betting heavily on Starship's reliability to replace the Falcon 9. However, some experts, including former NASA engineer Dan Rasky, have expressed concerns regarding the viability of the heat shielding system. Rasky noted that the current thermal protection system may be a dead-end for rapid reusability, potentially impacting the long-term affordability promises made by the administration of the company's technology.
