Mike Carroll says the Parkway East could reopen by the middle of next week following the successful Commercial Street Bridge slide.

Mike Carroll, the PennDOT Secretary, stated that the Parkway East is expected to reopen by the middle of next week, potentially as early as next Monday. The project is currently ahead of the original August 3 deadline following the successful installation of the new 22-million-pound Commercial Street Bridge. The $95 million project has seen crews working 24 hours a day since the July 10 closure to expedite the process. While the bridge is now in place, workers must still complete the bridge deck's polyester polymer concrete overlay and finish the approach roadways. Carroll noted that while the agency is striving for an early opening, the final date depends on the weather, as rain can affect the concrete pouring process. The early completion provides significant relief for the 100,000 daily drivers who use the artery. Meanwhile, Commercial Street is expected to remain closed until August 3 to allow for continued construction and to ensure the Parkway East remains the primary focus of the project.
